Re: Reenactment picture ?
How logical is it to wear your pistol under your water bottle in close combat, von Thoma? Why do they all have so clean uniforms and hands?
Reenactment for me.
Reenactment for me.

Re: Reenactment picture ?

This site seems to claim that the picture is from Bundesarchive Photos 1933 - 1945.
but the decal edges are not the usual format

Re: Reenactment picture ?
Most sites seem to think it was taken at Stalingrad.
For example
https://www.vintag.es/2018/03/horrors-o ... hotos.html
Of course it would only take only one person to post a picture as genuine and most people will uncritically repost it as such.

Re: Reenactment picture ?
Good call Von Thoma
You are right.
It is a reenactment picture after all.

It goes to show how easily miss-information can be perpetuated on the net.
Do a photo search for the image to see how many sites say the picture was taken at Stalingrad.

If most people cannot tell they are modern photos then the guys are doing something right.

All the more reason to check sources thoroughly.StigRoadie wrote: ↑01 Jan 2020 10:14If most people cannot tell they are modern photos then the guys are doing something right.
You can often tell that a reference has come from a single source by the fact that the wording is identical over multiple sites.
I checked the first site with a variation in text [one that didn't mention Stalingrad] and got the real source.

The soldier throwing the grenade is an extremely well-fed individual!
