Here's the trick I have a rock bed under my deck grass wont grow no sun.The trick is paint your base coat let dry overnight then I hit the helmet against the rocks on all sides. After that rinse off the paint flakes and residue. Lightly sand the helmet to get paint and scratches blended rinse off again. Paint your camo colors let dry and lightly sand again. For best results get the Feldgrau bsae color the dark contrast with the tan on top shows off the dings and scratches well

Nice paint job but I would weather the wire basket a little. It looks brand new/clean.

The base coats look bright, its the flash and freshly done paint. Once dirty they will blend right in. Thats 15 FJ helmets I have painted now.

I see a few late war helmets with decals,

Due to an order dated 1943 issued by the OKW, no decals should be seen on new helmets. In addition, many M35 & M40 shells were reconditioned and reissued all the way to the end, So these rules would apply to them too. reading this, if you already had a decal then it could be painted over or scratched out

The best late-war look in my opinion is probably no decals at all.

In theory, but it's not uncommon to see decals eithers right up until May 45.
