Sorry! I completely forgot to answer this - tut mir leid! I just ran across this again ...

Much detail is here - http://www.stbats.bayern.de/hochbau/dokustelle.php , along with a lot of plan drawings and even period building plans.

These plans indicate that the unfinished so-called Förderstollen that would have been an exit to the Platterhof tunnel will be incorporated into the new display (which will be mostly underground, in the hillside across from the current Dokumentation). I've also read it described as a continuation or completion of the current tunnel tour. Not sure how this will work ... do they intend to open up the other end of this tunnel, inside the current tunnel (at the end where the steps lead up to the Platterhof basement)?

Other folks in other places have indicated that the Berghof site should be incorporated as well, even proposing some sort of "anti-nazifying" structure similar to the glass "spear" at the RPT area museum in Nuernberg. (I think any such plans will radically change visitation to the Berghof site.). Another very welcome idea is to stop ignoring the other ruins and sites and erect interpretive markers all around. I've been preaching this idea for years, and I hope they really will do this. (Although their discussions make it clear that they want no sort of "nazi trail" in the area.)

As planned, there will be VERY big changes to the Obersalzberg in the next 3-4 years.

No worries, Geoff! I had planned to be in Germany again from April 13 but my 98-year-old ex-Luftwaffe mother-in-law has current health issues so we won't be going until September/October now. They may have made some progress by then. Let's hope the site doesn't turn into a shopping centre .

Max, these are great Berghof architectural images, thanks for the link. I tried to find these renderings few weeks ago but ran out of time.

Yes, a friend and I designed the two Berghof posters you mentioned, we also did ones for the Reich Chancellery, Wolfs Lair (Wolfschanze), Göring's Carinhall and the Berlin Führer-Bunker.

First a bowling alley in the Berghof and now this - what's next?

Good afternoon.
Here is a photo of a towel I recently acquired. Appears to have come from a "wash room" at the Platterhof. Measures about 18" X 28". I also have another towel (?) which I would like an opinion on. It measures about 9 feet long by about 19" wide. Could this be either A: from a roll of unfinished towels; B: a towel from one of those old fashioned continous feed towels one used to see in bathrooms; or C: something else altogether.

Also just scored a bunch of Platterhof glasses I'll put as a separate post.

I love Platterhof items and they seem to be getting harder to find. But sometimes you just fall into them. A dealer had 2 glasses for sale on-line which I purchased at a "fair" price. After I got them, she said she had more! I wound up getting 12 of one style and 4 of another!! Now that my may bank account has stopped smoking, thought I would post pics.

or are those silver plates for serving?

I do have three china plates, just have not unpacked them. They are 3 different sizes. Also have a fitted box which contains 12 demitasse cups and saucers. There are a few oval serving platters (?) and 11 or 12 round silver plate chargers. The plates came from another person who had more plates than the ones they put up at auction. I'm a sucker for Platterhof 'stuff'. I have a few pieces of Chiemsee Rasthaus silver and silverware. I have only seen one picture of Chiemsee plates. White with red logo. The quality did not look as nice as the blue/white Platterhof china.
