Yes, lots! As you mention, mostly (or all) in the woods. Up behind the Berghof site are several, including one from a Tallboy or Cookie bomb. Some beside the path to the Teehaus, some in the woods below the Goering house site, some in the "Adlergehege" facility, etc.

I was just wondering if some of the bomb craters are still there? When i look at the aerial pictures of the bombing I see some pretty large ones that I think are in the woods now etc? Just curious of any of the craters are still there.

as Geoff mentioned there are a lot of craters. During my visit in 2016 I have photographed some of them. But they are difficult to see in the photos, because so many plants block the view.

Here are two photos of the Bodnerbichl Hill Tour from Geoff's book "Hitler's Berchtesgaden: A Guide to Third Reich Sites in the Berchtesgaden and Obersalzberg Area". The first shows a crater beside the walking path at the Berghof Water Reservoir, the second shows the Tallboy Crater above the Berghof Complex. It's very huge and as i mentioned, it's difficult to see the extent of the crater in a photo.

I picked up one of these maps recently. They're not particularly rare, but on the reverse the GI [a commander of an AAA Bn] obtained the signature of "Hitler's elevator op[erator]"

Does anyone know who this might be? I didn't even know Hitler had a dedicated elevator operator, so I'm guessing whoever this was probably just said it to impress the GIs.

Not much help ... sorry ... I saw the name of the primary operator of the Kehlsteinhaus elevator in some book, but I can't recall either the book or the name. Maybe one of us will run across it ...

There is a US Army report dated 28 May 1945, titled "Hitler's Mountain Retreat," subtitled "Adlerhof - The Eagle's Nest," which contains info from the Kehlsteinhaus elevator operator and maintainer - one Georg Mehr. Clearly the signature on your map - cool!

It's the German way ... back then, anyway. Not so much now, but still rather common.

Folks, if you haven't done so, download that document that Max posted above. It's my source for Mehr's name as well as several interesting observations from 1945, and it contains one of the most remarkable 1945 maps I ever saw (showing the Gutshof Stollen, even).

BTW, over the past week there has been some tree cutting at the Berghof site. Apparently there was some vandalism cutting into several trees at the front of the site, that made it so that the forestry service had to completely cut them down. Reason for the vandalism - unknown. Cutting the trees down did really open up the view from the area of the grand picture window, towards the Untersberg mountains to the north.
