Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Thanks Geoff...as ever.
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
This is extremely impressive. Do you have a website or some other way of showing us the rest of the building?Lytvyn wrote:Happy New Year!

I've never noticed the feature circled A before - is it still there?
ober2a.jpg
Also is it the same a A on the map? - They seem to be in different places.
What is B in the photo?
It looks like a gigantic open sided hay shed.
Max, your map looks exactly like the one we were given by the US Corps of Engineers in 1974 and was stamped as such by them. I was serving with the Royal Engineers, doing work for the US AFRC around Berchtesgaden including on the Obersalzburg over the next few years.

No site. A lot is still unfinished. I'll think of how to show right away.CPB wrote:This is extremely impressive. Do you have a website or some other way of showing us the rest of the building?Lytvyn wrote:Happy New Year!

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Does anyone recognize these bombed building ruins? My father took these photos when he was in Germany 1945-46, but he didn't write anything on the backs of the prints. I have been able to identify the other photos he took on the Obersalzberg, but not these. It's possible that these were taken elsewhere, since he did take photos of bombed buildings in the Munich area, but I have no way to tell. Maybe that's the case of the one with the white building, but the other one with the chimney just looks Obersalzberg to me.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
How about this one? Someone gave me this photo, saying his father took it on the Obersalzberg in 1945. I am almost certain this was NOT an OSB ruin, but perhaps someone else has seen it?

Pfffff.... that is a hard one Geoff.. looking closely at each image, i think that none of the 3 pictures where taken on the OB.
All the terrain on the OB is steep, the slopes in these images are just at a slow angle only. Furthermore if these realy where taken on the OB, then
there should be mountains on the horizons of the pictures. As you know the OB is surrounded by six formidable mountain ranges.
I have never seen these images before, but i would be surpriced if someone could identify them to be on the OB.
The second image looks like a part of a kazerne to me, the building is just to long to be a normal house or part of a farm.
The third image looks to have a tunnel entrance with a fenced of gallery above it. The blown of part of concrete on the left is so thick, that it looks to be airplaine bomb prove... therefore i was thinking of a entrance to a underground factory, like you have for example on the Kohnstein hill near Nordhausen (Mittelbau - Dora) or Ebensee in AT. (just to name 2 candidates) The top of this hill in the image resembles the hight and slope angle as well, but there are more places like this. I would like to know the answer to your interesting question to ! I hope someone solves it Geoff.
