1935 Saar Propaganda

Have a Nazi plebescite postcard depicting a Saar official secretly accepting money from a Jew. Appears to be someone in journalism or possibly a French official????? Does anyone recognize him?

His name was Johannes Hoffmann, chief editor of Neue Saar Post, a Christian newspaper he founded in Saarbrücken in May 1934. They opposed National Socialist regime, eg. in January 1935 supporters of the newspaper briefly occupied Haus der Deutschen Front in Saarbrücken and hung up anti-Nazi posters. Police was called to remove protesters.

This satire implies newspaper was funded by French-Jewish capital.
It refers to part of the verse from Gospel of Matthew 6:3 "...don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does...", but it seems it is the other way around on the postcard...
If we become increasingly humble about how little we know, we may be more eager to search.

Many thanks! You've been a great assistance. Love the inclusion of the Gospel line.

... and here the propaganda for the second vote on the future of Saarland in 1955, now with "JoHo" [Johannes Hoffmann] as prime minister. At that time I experienced everything as a high school student.
The Warndt is a major coal mining district.
Incidentally, Johannes Hoffmann later died in the hospital where I was a resident physician.

Thanks for the interesting memories, Dieter.

The bottom character looks exactly like Kohlenklau, only with an eyepatch (Kohlenklau also looked with one eye, keeping the other one closed).

Cheers,
Ivan
