Reichskanzlei Thread
Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
Interesting drawings/schematics, but I don't see anything suggested to be beneath the Honor Court, or any access ramp that could have accommodated vehicles. And there is no indication of any access ramp leading down from the Ehrenhof level itself.

That model was made for films and such, and I believe it was even used during the production of Mein Fuhrer the movie, shown below.AlainDucasse wrote:I found this pic somewhere, I never saw the Reichskanzlei entrance before and I think it´s wrong? As far as I know, there was the entrance to the large vehicle elevator in the sidewalk in front of this section.

Wonderful, Mister S! I've never seen that clip or that film before, but they've done excellent work with CGI in recreating the Berlin Government District of those last days! Thanks so much for sharing it here!

Here are some images I have in my collection from a few archives (credit shown in the intrusive watermark):
A rare photo of Hitler's balcony, with the man himself, shown from above with a great view of the balcony floor: One of the best colour images of the Chancellery, shot from the corner of Voßstraße-Hermann-Göring-Straße: The 1930 extension under construction: A scale model of the honor courtyard: An interesting image of barrage balloons being flown over the Chancellery on March 19th, 1939:

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
All GREAT PHOTOS, Mister S!!!
* Looks like a few other familiar faces on the balcony with AH, too!
* That dark building (in shadow) on the right at the corner of Voßstraße-Hermann-Göring-Straße was the headquarters of Gau-Berlin. I've always thought it interesting that Dr. Goebbels effectively boxed the Reichschancellery complex in, with the Reichsministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda situated across Wilhelmstrasse, the Gau-Berlin headquarters on the corner of Voßstraße-Hermann-Göring-Straße, and Goebbels' city residence also on Hermann-Göring-Strasse down toward the Brandenburg Gate!
* The photo of the Siedler Office Building under construction also shows the Wilhelmsplatz being paved over, in front of the Hotel Kaiserhof. That was certainly a premonition, wasn't it?!
* Are you sure that that's a "scale model" of the Ehrenhof? It certainly looks like the real thing to me! Where would this "model" have been erected?
* A wonderful photo of the Wilhelmsplatz...though if this photo was taken in March of 1939, the war was still six months in the future. Talk about preparedness!
Cheers,
Br. James

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
Thanks, Raúl M -- that looks like AH on the left, surrounded by the women, as always! And on the far right, that looks like Hermann Esser, though he appears to be wearing an SS uniform and Esser wasn't an SS-Mann...though he was an NSFK Gruppenführer...?

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
Great photo, Lutrebois! Thanks for posting. Anyone care to hazard a guess at the building in the left background? The shell of the Adlon perhaps?

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
Judging on the distance it would be a good shout, but I don't think so. Then the "woods" behind the stair tower would have to be the Wilhelmstrasse, where there were still buildings standing. My guess is we are rather looking towards Potsdamer Platz?!
In this photo you see the largely undamaged Luftfartsministerium in the left of the photo, hence also the still standing buildings in the Wilhelmstrasse in the left bottom corner of the photo Best

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
My guess would be that the photo is taken towards the West, towards the Potsdamer Platz - to the North would have been the Adlon, but also the still standing buildings of the Wilhelmstrasse, likewise had the photo been taken looking East. In the South would have been what is today the House of the (Sitz des) Bundesrates - you see it in the top left corner of the areal photo - so in my opinion, yes, the building just behind the Potsdamer Platz that you are pointing at, is a possibility.

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
The shadow on the person drilling is rather long and there are leaves on the vegetation and the men in the background are bare-chested indicating warmer weather, so I don't think that the view is to the south.
Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
I believe it is the air ventilation system cone, or whatever it actually is. I have heard so many things: lookout tower, air vent, filter system, etc. Nobody seems to be certain of its purpose. I think C. Neubauer mentioned it in his 1943 bunker film and went into detail, but it has been awhile. I have been meaning to watch those again; they are currently collecting dust on my shelf.Max wrote:What is this?
