Vielen Danke!!
Re: Die Deutsche Wochenschau
Can anyone help me find the number and date of the "Wochenschau" that had a segment on foreign Waffen-SS men on a course at the SS Officer Cadet School Bad Toelz: the camera zooms in on the two cuffbands they wear, their national band and that of the school.
I'm told it was No. 32 of 1943, which is confusing as that year started with No. 644!
So I tried the 32nd edition in 1943, but that would have been No. 675 (Wednesday, 11 August 1943) and the Bad Toelz segment is not there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Today, I discover this Youtube's channel :Von Schadewald wrote:One fellow put up almost all the Wochenschau newsreels on youtube to a high clarity. Recently they have all gone. What happened? Is there any other site where they are viewable to a high clarity without paying?

This index contents information about concordance inter tittle and signature of the documentaries.
Recién encontrado este índice que refleja concordancia entre título y signatura:

The new UfA-Tonwoche channel on YouTube is a great resource, but one user there noticed that some of the videos are stretched from 4:3 to 16:9, distorting the video. I haven't looked them all over to find out how prevalent this problem is.
Another good resource is https://archive.org/. There is an extensive collection here, sometimes two copies of some reels. They also have downloading in various formats.
A great tool to use when viewing the newsreels are the summaries on the Bundesarchiv/Filmarchiv site: http://www.filmarchives-online.eu/les-p ... chiv-barch. Type 'deutsche wochenschau' (and even a reel number if you know it) into the search box and you'll be linked to the summary of the reel with a table of contents in English and German. The German TOCs are usually far more detailed, so it's good to know a bit of German or have a Google Translate window open, too.
Lastly, British Pathé has a War Archives channel on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/WarArchives/videos. Their 'German Invasion of Russia' footage is basically DW reels without a narrator. Their 'Liberation of..' series are composed of Russian footage with an English narrator. The reason I mention them is because the video quality is quite excellent.

First, those videos are hardly high quality. That channel is set up by another profiteer (notice the solicitation for paypal under each video) uploading materials gleaned from bittorrent, right down to the erroneous identification of Descheg Monatschau as Die Deutsche Wochenschau.Jan7 wrote:Today, I discover this Youtube's channel :Von Schadewald wrote:One fellow put up almost all the Wochenschau newsreels on youtube to a high clarity. Re: Die Deutsche Wochenschau
Did you ever find your newsreel? One problem when searching for the right issue of the Wochenschauen is that the yearly numbering did not start Jan 1st, but rather some time in December the year before, so yearly number is not the same as the number of the week in a certain year. The yearly No. 32 in 1943 corresponds to Wochenschau No. 673. The description of that newsreel is "Sport; Ausbildung von Führern der Waffen-SS; Abwehrfront Sizilien; Krieg im Mittelmeer; Ostfront: Kampfraum Orel; u.a." from the list I have, so it sounds like that is the issue you are looking for.hpt wrote:Can anyone help me find the number and date of the "Wochenschau" that had a segment on foreign Waffen-SS men on a course at the SS Officer Cadet School Bad Toelz: the camera zooms in on the two cuffbands they wear, their national band and that of the school.
