GREAT find, Red Star! Thanks! This photo shows that Turk's tank was Nr. 101. I had never seen a photo before where the third digit was visible. It also shows that, at this time at least, s.SS-Pz.Abt. 503 did not follow the "normal" turret numbering scheme. That is, presuming this was originally the company commander's tank of the 1st Kp., the equivalent tank in s.SS-Pz.Abt. 501 would have been Nr. 105 (they had no 101). Interesting stuff ...

I stood on that spot in June. It was, for me, very difficult to picture Karl-Heinz Turk's King Tiger just there, with the Potsdamer Bahnhof behind ... I think that of all the Third Reich-related sites I have visited, that area has changed the most since 1945.

This is maybe off subject, however, somewhat still on subject. Back in November 2007, I visited Berlin and they had the Christmas Market open and fully operating at the Potsdamer Platz, one month before the holiday. From what they said at the time, Berlin's Christmas Market opened there first and then a few weeks later throughout the city. We had such a good time, every night we found ourselves at the Potsdamer Platz, partying with the Germans. In fact, my wife also elected to celebrate her 50th Birthday, on November 16, 2007, there on the slide and drinking hot wine. Only later did I discover that the German Army used the massive subway terminal under the Potsdamer Platz for their headquarters in April 1945.
