Re: Reinhardtstraße Berlin photo
Thanks, everybody, in some ways things are much clearer and in other ways are still unclear. The original photo I was looking for is the one on Ron Klages Panzers (Panzerwracks2)here:
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 7&start=90
I had wrongly assumed that the halftrack/armoured car wrecked at the intersection of Reinhardtsrasse and Friedrichstrasse was the same one outside Friedrichstrasse 107, i.e. the caserne. Even a cursory look shows they are not the same vehicle unless someone went to the trouble of re-attaching the leftside fender. However, I don't think Red Star's photo is the same vehicle or location either as the photo comes up as Admiral Hotel when you click on it. Even more confusing is that Vienna's Admiral Palast does not seem to be the same as the Red Star photo (Admiral Hotel). However, nobodyofnote's map seems to indicate an "Admiral's Garden" (?) - a bit hard to read - behind the building outside of which the (red rectangle) halftrack is parked. Even more confusing is that I seem to recall that there is a remnant of the Admiral Palast - a section of the facade - still existing just over the Weidendammer Bridge on Friedrichstrasse. I should've photographed it. Either way, if the halftrack with the Swedish nurses in it was photographed at Friedrichstrasse 107 and the second halftrack was photographed at the intersection of Friedrichstrasse and Reinhardtstrasse, these two destroyed halftracks must have been very close together as the Friedrichstrasse Bahnholf overhead railway is very close to both sites. When you factor in Red Star's final photo of yet another destroyed halftrack in Friedrichstrasse, it must have been quite scrapyard!

I'm glad this has all been sorted out. The second photo on Mannheim's first post should have been this one, at the intersection of Reinhardtstraße and Friedrichstraße:

It would have stunk quite badly from the corpses tooMannheim wrote:It must have been quite scrapyard!

Exactly right! The buildings in the background really haven't changed much.

even more confusing is that on your first photo you see the friedrichstadtpalast and that you are right with the admiralpalast that is still there, its located almost directly by friedrichstrasse station.Mannheim wrote:Even more confusing is that I seem to recall that there is a remnant of the Admiral Palast - a section of the facade - still existing just over the Weidendammer Bridge on Friedrichstrasse.

Another great photo, Red Star. You can almost read the street name on the sign at right. Looks like my next trip is Berlin again.
