It is still open, but you have to book a tour.

We also visited the village 2 weeks ago. We booked a tour and had a very good 3 hours in a cold but interesting spot of German's history. The Speisehaus der Nationen is now being converted to appartments. More building will take place. Because renting and buying a house in Berlin itself has become expensive, also the more remote areas like Elstal become interesting for housing projects. There are still many ugly Russian appartmentblocks, I am not sure if these are to be demolished, or re-instated as appartments.

The Jesse Owens house, the one with the exhibition, is not the actual house he lived in, that is the one next to it.

When I heard special postal stamps were made for stampcollectors, I had the find one. ( and I did :D )

Let's hope the area keeps his historical buildings and more renovation will take place! I think it will look different in some years, so if you have the change go see it! I will post some photos in the next post.

Hi Maurice,

“We booked a tour and had a very good 3 hours in a cold but interesting spot of German's history.”

Can I ask who you booked the tour with?

Off course Ecam, that is :http://www.dkb-stiftung.de/Fuehrungen_i ... 936.52.htm

They also offer tours in English. We could fix our own time and the guide waited for us at the gate. Price was 75€, split between 5 persons.

Kind regards,

Maurice

Thanks Maurice. I’ve wanted to tour the Olympische Dorf for years.

Good luck Ecam! I found the 3 hours was even too short, I could have spent at least 6.. (which is possible if you pay double)
