Hitler Statues

#1

Post by Nimrod » 12 Apr 2003, 18:25

Watching the fall of Saddam Hussian's statues being brought down in Iraq made me wonder if Hitler had any of himself around Germany during the rule of the Third Reich. If so are there any images or film footage of them available?

Thanks.

I don't know about full figure statues, but I do know that there were lots of bronze Hitler Heads around (I even have a small one on a marble base in my collection). They still turn up occassionally sometimes with bullet holes in them.

I don't believe there were any statues of Hitler ever. he was too practical for that. much for the same reasons that he never moved into the presidential estate and worked out of the 'brown house' (he wanted the palace to be completed for the new reich and the future of the leadership, which he would have used upon its completion as a vehicle of the Nazi government, just as any later leader would). he followed that fascist line of thought that he was doing the work of the state, not that his person was greater than the state in its formation.

I think Saddam had so many statues, because of his role-model; Stalin. who had more statues made of himself than any leader in history

Statutes

I don't think that Hitler had any large outdoor statues of himself that were like the one of Saddam in Baghdad. As mentioned, there were many busts, heads, desk-size figures, and bas-relief plaques, but no outdoor statues.

Apparently there was a limit to his meglomania :D .

Here's an idea:

Picture an outdoor statue of Hitler. On horseback, in a pose like that of David's painting of Napoleon crossing the Alps......

Bit much, eh? :D

Standard Feldgrau or Khaki. Standard Wermach officer's hat. A tricorn and those flowing robes would really be over the top.

if an outdoor statue of Hitler were made, it would probably be of him holding the blood flag during the beer hall putsch arm & arm with his fallen comrades, being fired upon. or something equally as 'historical' and 'vitalistic/active' full of motion & emotion, etc. at least that'd be my guess.

I believe there were no statues because of the idea Hitler had about avoiding anything that could be destroyed linked with his person. Even the Hindenburg was considered as the Hitler but it was turned down because of these reason.

But didn't Idi Amin once propose to have a statue of Hitler put up in Kampala?
