FHQ never used or visited by Hitler

Post by Makarov » 26 Sep 2013 21:17

Much has been written about FHQ that was used or visited by Hitler, less is written about the planned or even built FHQ that was never used or visited by the same. An exception might be Anlage Mitte, but what is known about FHQ like Wolfsschlucht 3, Wasserburg, Zigeuner and others. How far did the Construction go? Location? Current status?

Thanks Pavel!
Though my knowledge in the estonian language is nonexistent the link was in any case informative. Is it true that Wasserburg was built in case if Hitler had decided to focus on the Leningrad front?

And answer to your question about the main purpose fo Wasserburg, I suppose so, but I have no confirmation.

Pavel,
Regarding Bärenhöhle, Hitler made a short stop on his way from FHQ Wehrwolf to FHQ Wolfsschanze March 13th 1943, which by then was headquarter of army Group Center. I visited the site in 2007. I agree with you that information about never used FHQ seems to be limited, but that makes me more determined and I Think AHF is the best Place to look for it.

I visited Bärenhöhle in november 2007 on my way to Katyn memorial, which is Close by. The circumstances were not the best in many ways, and therefore I couldn't take any pictures.

Regarding Wolfsschlucht 3 it is located approximately 200 - 250 kilometers southwest of Paris. Here's a copy from Google Earth of the area. The read circle marks the tunnel entrance that I Believe was built for Hitler's train.

Same as Wolfsschlucht 3.

Here is some info about FHQ Brunhilde/Zigeuner. It's located in the forest approximately 1 kilometers northeast of Angevillers, France.

According to Seidler's and Zeigert's book, Hitler's secret headquarters, Organisation Todt began the Construction of the FHQ Olga in the summer of 1943 near a Town called Orsha, ca 200 kilometers northeast of Minsk. A Concrete Fuhrerbunker was actually built, though never completed, along with several block houses and wooden baracks. But with the Russian army closing in Olga was abandon and destroyed in december 1943. Wether something remains of Olga to this day I don't know.

Same book also mentioned that a Fuhrerbunker was built at W3 in the immediate vicinity of the North Eastern mouth of the tunnel. I Believe it might still be there, but I can't tell for sure.

Another interesting detail about W3 is that the tunnel used to shelter Hitler's special train in preparation for the talks with marshal Petáin in October 1940.

Pavel,
The second link you enclosed in a previous post regarding Bärenhöhle deals with a bunker approximately 3 - 4 kilometers west of the site I visited in 2007. There's nothing strange about this if it wouldn't be for in the middle of these two sites lies the Katyn forest. So, does this mean that the bunker in your link was not a part of the Bärenhöhle komplex or does it mean that the germans built Bärenhöhle without knowing about the secrets of that forest. Construction on Bärenhöhle started in fall 1941 and the massgraves were discovered in 1943. It would be interested to see a layout of Bärenhöhle to see if it's boundaries reached the forest where the massgraves were.

Hi Makarov
Frankly, I always thought, that this bunker`s directly where fhq Bärenhöhle stood. The bunker isn`t a rest of fhq Bärenhöhle ?! Show me please the exact location where you went in 2007. Thank you for informations about fhq Olga, would be nice to have a good memeber from Russia/Belarus here.

You right Makarov, two different bunkers, cca 4,3kms. Pretty long distance for unfinished and unused fhq?!
