Hi Everyone
I was in germany last november for the first time for work. My work took me to Karlsruhe and while my German counterpart was driving me thru the town I noticed a mixture of old style german buildings and much newer ones. I asked about this and he said it had been bombed and where I saw most of these new ones was where they were rebuilt
there is also some old west wall fortifications along the Rhine
I did some research and found a youtube of the bombing but was wondering what if any fighting happened there or if there were pictures of the damage anywhere? It was the first German city I spent some time in.
Also was curious if Hitler or any other top politicians had stopped there etc
thanks much

I have similar feelings when I visit a German city, I want to know more about the history!
There are some German pages on Karlsruhe in the Third Reich. Perhaps less easy fo find, depending on your preferences with Google. They are easily translated with Google as well:
https://stadtlexikon.karlsruhe.de/index ... ereig-0016
This shows several locations, interesting site!

Hitler was indeed several times there; see https://ka.stadtwiki.net/Adolf_Hitler
Good luck!
Maurice

Re: Karlsruhe during the war? and 3rd Reich period?
Hello,
At the end of the Second World War, 35% of the city was in ruins.
The reconstruction started in 1946 and there was trying to preserve as much of the old city as possible.
https://web1.karlsruhe.de/Stadtraum/Fae ... ten.en.htm
Altogether 1501 humans had been killed by the air raids, 7790 buildings were destroyed, 20735 only partly stood.

Here below is a picture of Karlsruhe in march or april 1945

and here below is a picture dated from 1946; showing the ruins (City center and market place) of the aerial attack of the 27th of September 1944

IMHO, Adolf Hitler( neither important politicians) never went to Karlsruhe
Kindly regards
Prosper
