The modern German flag was used during the Weimar Republic. A friend told me the colors stood for "Out of darkness, through bloodshed, into sunlight." I can't verify that, though.Gen. Someone know the meaning of collors in the flag? and i would also like to know the other German flags, since Bismarck until ww2.

The uniforms of the "Lützower Freikorps", an army of volunteers fighting against Napoleon Bonaparte and the French occupation in 1813, were black and red in color, with golden ornaments.
These colours were then taken over by democratic student movements in 1815 (due to the students who were veterans of the "Lützower"). Black-red-golden Flags were flown at the "Wartburgfest" (1817) and the "Hambacher Fest" (1832), two patriotic, democratic student gatherings, making these colors the trademark of the democratic and patriotic movement.
During the 1848 revolution these colors were declared as the federal flag by the federal assembly. But the counter-revolution of 1850 put an end to these democratic dreams.
In 1871 the German Reich choose black-white-red as national colors. The “Weimarer Republic” of 1919 used the democratic Black-red-gold, but the Nazis first returned to "imperial" black-white-red 1933-1935, and then used the swastika as the national flag.
