Triumph of the Will breakfast question

#1

Post by jdarrylf » 14 Oct 2020, 23:17

In the film Triumph of the Will, during the scenes of the SA and SS men preparing breakfast, what type of noodle soup are they serving? Would it likely be some kind of potato soup with noodles or just a broth? I’m not familiar with the traditional breakfast dishes that would be served in that place and during that period.

I’ve always liked the breakfast scenes in that film for some reason, especially the part with the big cook ladling the soup in the kettle (like his cap too), and I’ve often wondered exactly what that soup was.

Looks like traditional Milchsuppe mit Nudeln.

jdarrylf,

sweet "Milchsuppe" is a typical meal here in Germany, served also for dinner, not only for children...

Translation from the german Wikipedia:
"Milk soup is a mostly sweet food today, often served as a dish for children. In the past it could also be a hearty soup meal."

Milchsuppe / Wikipedia (G) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milchsuppe

In North Germany also prepared as "Sour Buttermilk Soup", and I hated the taste in my years of childhood.

What about a link to the film clip..?

Clearly the whole breakfast footage was assembled from many recordings in different places.
It doesn't have to be breakfast time on some, could be late afternoon.

Check their uniforms, one group got a soup, the other - sausages, how unfair! :D

Thanks for the stills from the documentary,

for sure, this was not breakfast (G. "Frühstück")

"Wiener Würstchen" and "Nudelsuppe" were served probably for lunch, maybe for dinner, but never for a
typical german breakfast...

Typical german "Frühstück" in these times was coffee, tea, bread, butter/margarine, cold cut / leberwurst, marmelade, hard boiled eggs, etc.
(Almost never warm food like fried or scrambled eggs, wurst or soup...)

Mahlzeit! :milwink:
