Rebuilding Berlin

#1

Post by headwest » 22 Jan 2021, 20:28

Hi Everyone

I was wondering if there is a good book, or website that details the rebuilding of Berlin?

I am very interested in

1) when planning started
2) how it deviated from what it was
3) the timeframe til they felt the city was "done"
4) How they treated people who owned business's but lost everything, and their buildings? were they given a new spot in a re build?

things like that

I would also be interested in what if anything they decided on for the Nazi buildings, were some just to big to dismantle? like the Flak towers? was there a conscious decision to bulldoze some even if they were in good shape? I knwo the air ministry is still there etc

anyway, I would be interested to know when and what the plan was, who was involved etc for this project

Thanks!

The flaktower did the allied try to blew Up several Times, the North part did crack. But then the decided to Bury the tower under all of the scrap from ruins. Today its a park and only the top is visuable.

The West part of Berlin was almost right after the War Being cleaned and buildings was starting to be built in a greater range in 1946 and onwards. The eastpart is a totally different story.

Best regards
