Anti-Semitic Image
Anti-Semitic Image
Was wondering if you could help me out. This is an Austro-Hungarian anti-Semitic "Kralj Kapital/König Kapital/King Capital" postcard printed from Umetniska Lubljana Propaganda press, but in Prague from the Great War period. It's filled with both anti-Jewish and anti-Catholic imagery, with a Jewish King like figure having a communist symbol on his stomach being hand fed by starving, oppressed Austrian-Czech-Slavic masses. This morbidly obese figure represents world Judaism. Possibly issues 1917-1918. I believe the pyramids signify when the Jews left Egypt, but having difficulty identifying the fortress like image in the upper right. Does that look like anything you recognize? Maybe Masada or something else?

Re: Anti-Semitic Image
Hi JLEES,
I can't see any specifically anti-Jewish imagery. In my opinion the image is essentially anti-Freemason and anti-Catholic. However, as the forged but widely circulated "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" linked Jews and Freemasonry, anti-Semitism may be a subtext here.
The fat figure appears to be wearing a variation of the three-tier papal crown. (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Papal ... vfiATK3DPM) or (https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/584553226616722297/) I presume he is meant to be the Papacy.
The pyramids are a Masonic image. (https://www.google.co.uk/search?sxsrf=A ... 0&bih=7820
The Pentagram is also a Masonic image.(https://www.google.co.uk/search?sxsrf=A ... 60&bih=782)
The Freemasons are supposedly descended from the builders of Solomon's Temple, also known as the "Temple of the Mount", which I presume accounts for the building on the high ground to the right/rear.
Masada, which was not then well known, is much more of a natural feature than a man-made one.
Cheers,
Sid.

Good morning JLEES,
an interesting graphic you have posted, thank you very much.
I have already sifted through some books and auction catalogs, but so far I have not found a comparable graphic, maybe later...
Attached I have two enlargements, interesting here the papal tiara with the double-tongued serpent on the top of the tiara, as well as the graphic artist's abbreviation "HS" at the bottom right of the front of the throne.
Also to the abbreviation "HS" I have so far unfortunately no further information, very surely someone here in the forum knows more about the graphic artist ?

During World War II, as a member of the resistance movement, he was arrested by Italian occupiers and executed two days later without trial.

Re: Anti-Semitic Image
I agree with Sid's estimation of this cartoon caricature, especially regarding the Papal Tiara. I also notice that there is a cross at the top of the building which forms an armrest for the main character's left arm...possibly indicating a connection to the papacy or to the Roman Catholic Church.
