Frankfurt am Main

Post by Mannheim » 12 Nov 2023 19:31

I am in Frankfurt am Main for eight days. Can anyone recommend anything I should be looking at as an enthusiast of our particular area of interest, i.e. Axis History?

Thanks, CraigM. I should've mentioned "apart from Geoff's site..." Cheers!

I never did make it inside the Frankfurt Festhalle (except for a Led Zeppelin concert in 1980), and I always wondered if the interior still looks anything like it did when rallies were held there in the 1930s and 40s.

I'm a tad older than you, Geoff, (I saw Led Zep in Sydney in 1970) but not old enough to remember what the rallies were like inside the Frankfurt Festhalle in the 1930s and 1940s. Nevertheless, I'll try and get inside to have a look and maybe get a photo or two. Cheers!

While in Frankfurt, as an enthusiast of Axis History, you might find the following recommendations interesting:

German Film Museum (Deutsches Filmmuseum): Explore exhibits on German cinema, including films from the World War II era.

Historical Museum Frankfurt (Historisches Museum Frankfurt): Check out sections dedicated to the history of Frankfurt, including the wartime period.

Goethe House and Museum: Although not directly related to Axis History, it provides insights into the cultural and historical context of the time.

Visit Local Archives or Libraries: If time allows, consider exploring local archives or libraries for more specific information related to Axis History in the Frankfurt region.

Remember to check opening hours and any potential restrictions before planning your visits. Enjoy your time in Frankfurt!
