Berghof Obersalzberg
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
For what they're worth, I just found two more interior shots of the Guest House. The blue marks to be seen on the window come from the fact that these photographs have been stored in a shoebox for thirty years. I had written a description (in blue ink) on the back of each photo and over time the ink has worn onto some of the photos. This will also become apparent when I post my photos of the SS garage, training field and others.

I may have misidentified these photos. I think I took them in 1989. If they are not the SS parade ground and garage, please correct me. In those days, before I discovered Geoff's wonderful site, or computers for that matter, I just photographed whatever looked interesting. You will notice the blue ink stains have reappeared.

Mannheim, these are just amazing pictures. I hope you can find all of them that you took from several years ago. Keep them coming--they are incredible!

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
In Germany with the U.S. Army in 1970... Mannheim was not the place to be. If you were in the Army stationed in Germany—you will know why. Anyway, these images are fantastic, thanks for the postings.
I too say ...keep them coming, bringing back memories.

Oh, you could be stationed in Mannheim - that was OK. You just didn't want to have an "involuntary" visit there.
It's still that way, BTW.

Nice photos, never seen the platterhof garage minus its other upper floors.
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Once again I may have misidentified the following photos. I took them armed only with two books (that I am pretty sure I bought at the Hotel zum Turken) and the advice of some locals I befriended. However, I am not sure I have captioned them correctly. Feel free to shoot me down in flames.
I must also learn how to put an umlaut in German words.

Mannheim you have some great pictures. If you have more keep them coming.
About the Goring cellar/bunker, i think its not there anymore but where exactly was the cellar in relation to the house, was it directly under the house or was it a bit away from the house.
And is there somebody who know, where the Goring House was exactly located at a map from the Goring Hill? i always find it difficult to really see where it was exactly.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
The cellar bunker was beneath Göring's house, on the back side (side away from the pool in front). All of these remains were removed in the late 1990s, in preparation for building the InterConti hotel.
This view of the InterConti hotel shows the approximate site of Göring's house - more-or-less where the pond is now.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Thank you Mannheim and everybody who has posted pictures of their OSB "expeditions", past and present - great to see what things looked like 20, 30, 40 years ago and what -if anything- is left to see today. Sad to have all this history destroyed in an attempt to make the past "go away".

In Mannheim's latest photo set, the first picture shows two sets of stairs. Were these stairs located in the hill area to the right of his third picture? What part of Göring's house did these stairs belong to? Thanks!

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
I to love these comparison locations of Geoff's.
I telling you... there would be a tremendous market for a historical reference book that would be dedicated in showing these (WWII/German NSDAP) locations in history to there actually geographical location today. Especially since most have been hidden deliberately or accidentally from the general public today.
You would be shock to know how many people are interested in this subject today—even though they will not admit it publicly.

I even came up with a prototype cover design for Geoff's new book.
