Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Hello, I'm new to the forum as an active user, but been a passive reader for years. This thread is amazing and I sourced a lot of information for my visit to Obersalzberg this past summer. And of course from Geoff Walden's webpages and his amazing book.
Here is an interesting link to a documentary about the Berghof. It is called the Hitler's mountain and it is unfortunatelly in Czech only. It however contains a lot of rare (I think) footage in high quality, including the footage from the construction stages, Goering, Fegelein/Braun wedding and from the bombing of the Berghof (40:30 and 41:47). I just thought you might enjoy it

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Couple interesting items on ebay. I won't be bidding on either of these.
I like the Bierkrug, but not that price!

The little stein looks interesting to me.
The lid however looks pretty new and bright?
didn't know they used brass?
I am Leary of reproductions...

Hi Annelie,
I've seen these items with lid and without. Some of the lids are the same, others differ is some way from the rest. FWIW, this is the first lid just like this one, that I have seen. The lids may have been added later, maybe even post-war. In that way, maybe the lids could be considered reproductions (at least, not original to the mug(s) ... maybe). I think the mugs (this one included) are not repros.

Original Kehlsteinhaus Tapestry Found
Tapestry from Hitler's alpine retreat returning to Germany
http://www.apnewsarchive.com/2016/A-16t ... 4dd889973f
This is the tapestry that was on the wall above the couch in the Scharitzkehlzimmer.
http://www.thirdreichruins.com/kehlsteinhaus.htm
German news says the tapestry has already been returned (thanks, Ralf!). But why there??? Why not save it for display in the new Dokumentation Obersalzberg expansion that will open in a couple years (hopefully). That would be the perfect place for it ... not in Munich (as Ralf pointed out to me, it will probably be put in storage in this museum, and never seen again). Well, the perfect place for it would be back on the wall in the Kehlsteinhaus where it once hung, perhaps behind glass, but I suppose security would be a big consideration there.
Really makes one wonder just how many such artifacts are still hanging around or buried under junk in attics in America ....

Any details on this new "Documentation Centre expansion"? First I've heard of it.

i think the first place for the tapestry is the Bavarian National Museum in Munich because they have a really good Restoration Department. They will examine the carpet and possibly restore it (It was sewn several times by her mother, i have read so far). Where the tapestry will be displayed later is still unclear in my opinion. It's just a few days in Germany.
But I agree with you, the wall in the Kehlsteinhaus would be a nice place!
Regards
Christian
