Berghof Obersalzberg
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Hi headwest,
I'm not certain that there was an airport or a special airstrip constructed for Hitler near Berchtesgaden which would have accommodated him, numerous visitors from Germany and internationally, and the host of retinue that traveled with him, including Hans Lammers and the Reichschancellery staff, but it does sound practical to me. There certainly were airports fairly close by, in both Munich and Salzburg. I know that there was a special depot constructed and attached to the Berchtesgaden train station for Hitler and his retinue, in fact, that depot was recently torn down and a collector friend of mine sent me a souvenir of the tiled roof that was originally attached to that building!
Hope this is helpful. Cheers,
Br. James

Closest airport capable of handllng FW-200's was Ainring just west of Salzburg - 35 Kilometers away on highway 20.
Baur mentions that there was a large hanger there for Hitler's FW-200 along with a small maintenance base.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
what to do with the Mountain Courtyard?"-workshop at obersalzberg
In the idyllic mountain landscape there are only a few traces of trees which indicate the role of the salt mountain in the " Third Reich The private house of Adolf Hitler was in the summer of There were photographs that show him on the sun terrace with animals and children and staged as supposedly nice " people's Chancellor At the same time, Hitler and his entourage decided to destroy thousands of people
How can / must / should be handled with such a place?
This question is devoted to this Saturday, 5.5. From 9 to 13 a public workshop.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
This debate will never stop... it's too charged with emotion and, frankly, misinformation.
I do honestly believe that someday there will be nothing left to see around there but a few chunks of concrete out in the woods somewhere. Nothing else left but photos.
Sigh....

OUTSTANDING Album! Thanks for sharing! I've not seen any other reference that gives numbers to the various Berghof guard posts.
And the album was a G.I. pick-up! Wow! I bet Chris wishes he could have gotten this one!
