Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Article in the current edition of the Berchtesgadener-Anzeiger about the Kempinski. The hotel on Obersalzberg is doing very well. I wonder if Goring would be proud, or turning in his grave. BTW, was Goring cremated or buried?
Anyway, I dont have a subscription to the Berchtesgaden paper, I just get the headlines from their webpage. Here's the link:

His body and the bodies of the other ten sentenced to death in the Nuremberg trial were cremated in the municipal crematorium in Munich's East Cemetery and the ashes were scattered in the Wenzbach, a tributary of the Isar.

His wife Carin is buried in Stockholm not long from the royal castle. Under her real name as well - Carin Göring.
There is many farytales about how her remains ended up in Stockholm. But one story is that during the 50/60´s a Swedish priest got currious what happened with her remains at Carinhall where Hermann had made a magnificant grave for his first wife.
The priset managed to get a visa in the DDR and traveled to the burned down remains of Carinhall, and when he went into the tomb her remains where scattered all over, Russians or animals unknown. But then he made a few trips to the DDR and everytime he brought some of the remains in his suitcase back to Sweden. And that´s how she could find a final restingplace.
Another anecdote, My family and me have done som geneology research and it turned up that Hermann Göring is married into my family. I use to huckle everytime I see him on the tv =) So far we have found one SS-Sturmmann (married into), one SS-Obersturmführer (direct ancestor) and one Fieldmarshall , not to bad score
Best regards
Georg

Super!- Besten Dank
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Is that second part video with the soldier looking at shelves and records in the berghof?
i always wondered if anyone ever was able to sort of catalog what was taken out by locals and soldiers
i mean, were things like Hitlers cloths, shoes etc still there?
there is a reputable shop that sells WW2 (and other time period) pieces and they have things like AH tablecloths from the platterhof or beghiof tunnels, brought back by an american soldier, as well as silver ware from EB and AH and Goering etc

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Two excellent vids of Berchtesgaden. I was rather surprised of the short clip of US soldiers looting ( a plate) from the Berghof.

More bad news, or at least bad publicity, for the Hotel Zum Türken.

That is ridicules. They make a very large amount hauling people up
to Kehlstein perhaps they should buy the Hotel and make it another
attraction.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Hi there. This is my first post, but I'm a long time reader of this fascinating thread. I've had the pleasure of staying at zum Turken and also am another proud owner of Geoff's great book.
In any case, I came across this thread on reddit that appears to have some new historic footage from Obersalzburg in a youtube video and perhaps more coming.I will link the thread as well as the video. I was able to download in case there is a removal of either the thread or video for archive.

This video indeed has some incredible footage. I think anyone on this thread would enjoy seeing it. It was published by a channel called Begafilm - a channel to keep an eye on me thinks! It appears to be the English version of the two previous German videos "Der Fall Hitler's Alpenfestung" videos combined into one (and the German videos now seem to have been deleted). There was also talk of a part three and if there is one, that's not in this new combined video.
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Thanks Craig. I've enjoyed this thread for years, and I intend to provide some contributions where I can. It's such a wonderful crowd-sourced depot of information and anecdotes.
In any case, the reddit user commented the following in the thread I linked, which is very encouraging:
"Thank you. More will follow.
We have 1000s of hours of unreleased material."
He seems very friendly and encouraged by the gratitude he received. Perhaps a proper authority such as Geoff or one of you other great contributors could reach out to him, as he may not be aware of this thread. I would certainly contribute to a gofundme to help facilitate the release of more footage for further study and analysis.
