Outstanding snippet of history highlighting the role of military intelligence on the battlefield. Of course it further begs the oft-asked question: "Why did the Allies not attack the Berghof earlier than April, 1945?"

Does anyone know who was Berchtesgaden's Chief of Police / polizeihauptkommissar in the immediate post-war period?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,
According to Berchtesgaden im Wandel der Zeit (1982), the immediate postwar police chiefs of Berchtesgaden were:
1. Norbert von Wurzbach (for 14 days)
2. Franz Herzog (shot by prisoners in 1946)
3. Heinrich Rötz

There were also leaders of the local district police:
1. 1945 - Johann Vaitl
2. 1945 - Franz Boos (presumably, Veitl served under the Nazi administration, to be replaced by Boos when the Americans took over)
3. 1947 - Lorenz Waldenmüller
4. 1948 - Josef Heiß
5. 1949 - Anton Naber

Hope this helps!

I'm searching a plan of the Berghof at Obersalzberg, a floor plan and pics of the interior of this famous building.

Could somebody help???
I don't have an architectural plan. But what I do have is (printed out from here but obviously there are hundreds of posts so it's unreasonable to expect you to wade through them) a plan of the building and how it relates to the retaining wall.

I use it (and tourists find it useful) when tour-guiding the Berghof ruins. Because without explanation the rubble and spoil there tells you nothing.

Most people know that the Berghof was "created" in 1936 via a major renovation/extension of Haus Wachenfeld, but perhaps not as many know that the eastern wing was extended in 1938. The end of the wing looks very different. That difference, by the way, may help date some photos and floor plans.
