Last word is "geweiht"

First sentence is then something like:

Germany is doomed to loose the war (literally: " to go down).

Now i still need to know if the handwritting is printed or really handwritten!!!!

Hans,
The hand writing on the back was printed onto the postcard.

Ok, that would be the most logical possibility. But I had to check. It would have been strange that a pow would have been allowed to write a card like this for sending home :D

Now the text (as far as the handwriting is readable / xxx and yyy is unreadable for me because of bad handwriting):

To Mrs Otillie xxx
yyy
Lindenstreet 13
xxx
West Prussia

Sender: SS (?) xxxx
prisoner of war camp

Dear mom
From Russian prisoner of war (camp) greetings from Erich your son.
It is going well with me and I am till now nicely healthy.
I hope you the same (along that lines of meaning)
..... Polite greetings ....

Hans,
It is interesting that they had the card mailed by an SS man on the Eastern Front who is now in a Soviet POW Camp and everything is going well. It's obvious they wish to influence others into surrender too.

That's the purpose of these 'cards' which are actually just propaganda leaflets. As you said it is printen on thin paper, probably the same paper as used for ordinary propagand leaflets. In that it differs from some other russian cards which are good imitations including the paper. Do you know the Heil Beil postcard?

Here it is. One of the rarest items i have.

Heil Beil Postcard.

One of the most impressive cards of this type! And one of the rarest.

Russian propaganda towards German soldies.
Cartoon by Kukryniksy (pseudo for three famous Russian cartonists who were working together before the war but got even more famous during the war)

Thick postcard paper.

This one is marked as "Feindpropaganda" by the finder.

Hans,
That's an interesting looking postcard. You must have an interesting collection. Have you ever displayed it an any shows, or in an exhibition?

As you might have seen in my homepage, I am asked for info from all over the world. A few years ago there was a reporter from the NY Times using info and pics from my collection.

There were numerous publications in Dutch regional newspapers.

Last November I had a local TV appearance when there was a propaganda bomb found at a road construction site nearby.

Just now, I received copys of a canadian schoolbook in which some pics/info from my leaflets are used.

I just did write an article for a local history group on the liberation of our hometown area in sept/okt/nov 2004. Am also preparing a small exposition in a local museum for the liberation.

Am also busy in writing and researching for two articles on specific leaflets.

All in all, I do not have enough time....
