Dear all

I have read somewhere that Henlein has received the Dr. iur h.c., the h.c. means honorabily. I know also that he was gymnastic teacher. So can anybody tell me from which university and at what date he received this doctor title.

Thanks for every information.

Greetings

thomas

Received honorary Dr. jur. title from University of Breslau in 1936, precise date unknown (Source: Page 137 of "Hitler's Politische Generale" by Karl Hoeffkes).

Best wishes,

Politically, what was Konrad Henlein? Obviously, Henlein was a great German nationalist, and his motivation in becoming a Nazi was because he thought that Hitler was the best candidate to unite the Sudatenland with the German Reich. But past that, what was he? The State Socialist faction of Bormann, Himmler, Donnewert, and Karl Frank were clearly his personal (and thus probably, political) enemies, but I cannot figure if he is thus to the left of them with the socialist faction (e.g. Goebbels, Ley, etc.) or is he a bourgeois capitalist willing to make a deal with the Devil (e.g. Göring, Keppler, etc.). Do we have any clues on this? Labor union membership? Previous party association? Inherited wealth? Perhaps a revealing public pronouncement on the “social problem?”

Here's some information on the subject of Henlein's early political stance, based on data obtained from Phil Nix a few years ago:

In 1934, Henlein stated: “We do not hesitate to state that a fundamental difference exists between us and National-Socialism. We will never renounce the freedom of the individual.” Henlein’s lack of interest in joining with the Third Reich led Heydrich and his SD to conspire against him (even gaining the cooperation of Henlein’s deputy, Karl-Hermann Frank, with the prospect of gaining control of the Sudeten-German Party). Henlein’s frustration with the Czech government ultimately led him to accept the need to collaborate with Germany. In late-07.1938 he went to Breslau to attend the German Gymnastic Festival where he met and reached an agreement with Adolf Hitler.

Best,
~ Mike

SS-Gruppenführer: 9.10.1938 (it appears that he entered the SS at this rank. I found no reference of him ever holding the rank of SS-Brigadeführer); SS-Obergruppenführer: 21.06.1943.
