Blood Order recipients

#1

Post by Peter » 29 Dec 2002, 18:10

I know that when Hitler presented the first of the Gold Party Badges on 9 Nov 1933 he announced the institution of the Blood Order for participants in the Beer Hall Putsch on 8/9 Nov 1923 who had been Party members prior to 1 Jan 23. The qualification was widened on 30 May 38 after wrangling by Martin Bormann who desperately wanted to have the medal himself and it was then awarded to men or women who had been severely wounded as street fighters or imprisoned for at least one year for their membership of the NSDAP. A further group of recipients would be those who had been killed in the service of the party (ie: Horst Wessel and Hans Maikowski).

Can anybody advise me on 2 recipients of the Blood Order, which category they fall into and the dates of awards .

SS-Oscha Sepp Grünberger who was killed in an air attack in the East 3 Dec 1943, aged 32.

Leutnant Hans Kastner who was killed in the East 22 Sep 43, age 27 (also held EK II, EK I, Wound Badge). (I have an uniform photo of this young man wearing his medals and Blood Order ribbon on his pocket).

Cheers
Pete

Friend,

I have the complete and oficial list of Blut Order Recipients and the SS Officer Sepp Grünberger not appear and the only "Kastner" in the list are:

Florian N° 473
Johann without number ad honorem
Karl without number ad honorem received sept 1939
Rudolf Without number ad honorem received august 14, 1940.

I have not "Hans".

Their neither received Coburg Badge.

thanks, Helly Angel
I can easily believe that Grünberger did not get the medal but Kastner very definitely wore the ribbon in the proper way on his Wehrmacht tunic and it is pictured very clearly on his joint Sterbebild (Death card) photo and it is listed under his name amongst his awards. I wonder if he had a double first name or anything like that.

any ideas where I go from here ? I'll try to get my scanner working again and post a copy of the pic I reckon.
cheers
Pete

I've just been told that Johann is sometimes abbreviated to Hans and Johannes to Hanns.

Phil
thanks, interesting. The double Sterbebild is for the two Kastner brothers:

Leutnant Hans Kastner (EK II, EK I, Verw.-Abz., Blutorden) 22 Sep 43 aged 27, in the East. German Army.

Ogefr. Leopold Kastner (Fleischhauer in Katzbach 37) 11 Nov 43 aged 28 in the East. Luftwaffe.

cheers
Pete

Hi,

I've not heard of Grünberger either,

David

"And yet you have conquered" (ISBN 0-85420-295-1) from http://www.militarypress.co.uk doesn't list him.

The Death Card to SS-Oscha Sepp Grünberger is believed very strongly to be a FAKE.

Does Klaus Patzwall's book mention Frank (or Franz) Wysbar as a recipient of the Blutorden?

According to Rasse- und Siedlung Fragebogen of Hans Huber it states he was "Blutorden Nr 1605 Dienstausz. 10 Jähr. NSDAP" awarded on "15.Mai 1939 ... auf Befehl des [word unclear] Herrn Reichsschatzmeisterverliehen".
Huber's details:
10 Feb 1910, born St Michael, Krs Salzburg
Aug 1932, SS_bewerber (later SS No. 270270)
Aug 1932, joined illegal NSDAP in Markt Pongau (later given Party No. 4824072
A mere SS-Oberscharführer with Stapostelle Innsbruck.

I am looking for help on the Blood Order - I am compiling a list of Holders. Any Name with number of the 2nd Pattern would be of great help. Also Party Number and if applicable SS Number.
