Re: Gauleiter Hans Schemm
Hans Schemm was quite an interesting and capable character. Many thanks for providing this selection of period photos from his life.

Re: Gauleiter Hans Schemm
I’ve read that Schemm was a bit of a moderate
by Nazi standards , artistically inclined. His successor was a boorish, drunken lout , Fritz Wächtler. See Brigitte Hamman’s book “Winifred Wagner”.

Body looks in very good shape for somebody who died in airplane accident.
Re: Gauleiter Hans Schemm
Not much is written that I could find concerning the plane crash involving Hans Schemm, though apparently he wasn't killed outright since his Wikipedia biography states that "In March 1935 Schemm was seriously injured in an aircraft crash. Although Hitler personally ordered Berlin Professor Ferdinand Sauerbruch to fly to Bayreuth, Schemm, however, succumbed to his injuries on March 5 before the professor's arrival." Perhaps Schemm's crash took place a day or two prior to March 5th? As ihoyos says: "Body looks in very good shape for somebody who died in airplane accident." This is confirmed in the photo of Schemm on p.397 of Charles Hamilton's "Leaders and Personalities of the Third Reich," Volume 1, where we have a good view of Schemm in his Gauleiter's uniform lying in state, as he appeared at his funeral.

Re: Gauleiter Hans Schemm
According to both The New York Times and Salzburger Volksblatt of 6 March 1935, Schemm's crash and death both occurred on the 5th.
