Ley and monopoly on rubber goods?

Post by little grey rabbit » 11 Jun 2013 08:31

[Split from "The first English language mention of gas chambers?"]

Some of Flannery's shock can seem rather quaint these days (a bit off topic, from page 115-116)
One night the Lairds and I went to dinner at a restaurant near the Wittenbergplatz, where Steve discovered in the men's washroom a slot machine for contraceptives. On it was sign:
"Men protect your health."
We wondered about that and finally decided it was arranged as a concession to Dr. Ley, the Minister of Labour, who had been growing wealthy through the monopoly on rubber goods given him by Hitler.
Out of curiosity did Robert Ley have a monopoly on condoms?

Surely not. Try reading this book:

Since 1927 vending machines were placed in hotels and public toilets.
