Full list of Hitler's awards - whether worn or not?

#1

Post by Skipperino » 08 Feb 2017, 11:48

I think the vast majority of us will probably be aware that Hitler was not a 'medal hound' like Göring was, and normally only wore his Iron Cross 1st Class, wound badge and Golden Party Badge, (and on occasion the Blood Order) and he made a point of (usually) declining foreign honours and orders.

However, there were some awards that he accepted, but wore only once (such as the MSVN insignia and dagger he wore at the 1937 state visit to Italy), and others that he was presented with but never wore, such as the various Gau badges and (I believe I read somewhere), the collar of the Order of the Yoke and Arrows, which Franco awarded him but he never wore.

There were also the WWI medals he was awarded but was less proud of, like the Bavarian Military Merit Cross.

Then there are the awards and decorations he would have been technically awarded by default, such as the Olympic Games Decoration, which he never acknowledged let alone wore.

So my question is this: is there a full list of the decorations and awards Hitler was awarded or entitled to, whether he wore them or not?

Many thanks in advance.

I thought I read in the book 'Hitler's First War' that he won two Iron Crosses for bravery. Is that accurate?

A link showing Hitler's decorations.

It doesn't cover any foreign presentations.

Well; as regards foreign awards, not only did Hitler accept the appointment of First Honorary Corporal in Mussolini's MSVN blackshirt militia, wearing the insignia and ceremonial dagger associated with this appointment on his state visit to Italy in 1938, he was also granted the Collar of the Imperial Order of the Yoke and Arrows, the highest rank of fascist Spain's highest order, along with Mussolini and King Victor Emmanuel III(though he probably never wore it), as can be seen here:

Hitler does not seem to have worn his Blood Order medal during the war. At Party ceremonial events he would sometimes wear the BO ribbon on his field gray uniform, but by 1943 he wasn't even doing that...
