Dr Ernst Thonnard-Neumann AKA Dr Ernst Thonnard
Dr Ernst Thonnard-Neumann AKA Dr Ernst Thonnard
I am looking for info on Dr Ernst Thonnard-Neumann (Born Aachen 19th May 1898) . He was a specialist in Migraine and eventually emigrated to the US in 1958 under the name Ernst Thonnard. He died in 1996. He was the head of the Foreign Section of the German Medical Association from 1939 until at least October 1942. He was also simultaneously employed by Reich Medical Leader Dr Conti during this period. I am interested in his duties and general employment from the end of 1942 until !958 when he emigrated to the US. Also any ibvolvement he may had with the SS or affiliated organisations. Any information greatly appreciated.

I wonder what happened at US customs when he handed in his visa waiver form, having ticked the box "Have you ever been a member of the Nazi Party". Always made me smile whenever visiting the US and putting a cross in this box.

Bang on the money Steve!
Re: Dr Ernst Thonnard-Neumann AKA Dr Ernst Thonnard
Yes. I'm not sure they still do this but they used to hand them out on the plane after it had taken off. Perhaps a little late to think about putting a tick against any of these. Maybe a little US 'overkill'?
Re: Dr Ernst Thonnard-Neumann AKA Dr Ernst Thonnard
I guess this post may have closes a while ago, but this is fascinating: I came across it as I googled 'Thonnard'. My grandmother (Ilse von Roon) stayed with him in Marienbad in 1945, as a refugee. She describes that he 'just had to carry the uniform as a member of the Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle'. According to my grandmother he was locked up unfairly....
I haven't come across much more about him, only that his field of research at the time seems to have been malaria.
