Until 1942 the Minister of Transport was Julius Dorpmuller. He was replaced by Theodor Ganzenmuller. Actually, Dorpmuller was eased aside and Ganzenmuller's official title was Undersecretary of State for Transport. This made Ganzenmuller de facto head of the railways.

Don't know about schools...

Did Minister of Transport Julius Dorpmuller run the German railroads from 1933-42? Were the state rail roads unified prior to the Nazis coming to power?

Dorpmuller was appointed Director of German State Railways in 1926. if memory serves he was also appointed in the 1930's to a position that had to do with the autobahn. Anyway, he was appointed Reich Minister for Transport by Hitler in 1937.

An interesting article: "The Dorpmuller Controversy of 1926: Cabinet Politics, Reparations and Railways in the Weimar Republic" by A. C. Miezejewski in International History Review 14, 1992.

It's a rather complicated issue (which actually means it's getting late here and I'm too lazy to go into it), the unification of German railways, but suffice to say they were unified as the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1924. They became wholly state-owned in 1937.

What a friend we have in Mr. Phil Nix- Ask for a little, get EVERYTHING! That is the hallmark of his many contributions here, whether the question concerns the Reichsbahn, the SS, the Ordnungspolizei, the SA, or any number of other Third Reich organizations. A true friend to the Forums, to Mike Miller, and to the research community as a whole.

This may be a little off what you asked but I was suprised to find railway workers had uniforms and there was even a railway police. I attached a picture of a railway uniform tab and transportation tab.

Phil
If you happen to glance at this, is your list of the RK KvK Reichsbahn officials complete, just wondered the source. Am hoping to borrow a few german published books on the wartime railways in the hope there will be a good few leaders photos, if I am lucky hehe.

Hi Mark The data like a lot I have was compiled long before PC's were generally available. It comes from archives at the University of Warwick and it was gatherted when I was studying for my BA during 1990's There is a relativly new book out called "Hitlers Trains" by Alfred Mierzejewski ISBN 0-7524-2981-7
