What does a deputy Reichs Press Chief actually do? Does he travel to countries that were friendly to Germany? Did Berndt won any foreign decorations? :)

Foreign Decorations won by Berndt

Hi Fellows,

Dr. Joseph Goebbels was Alfred-Ingemar Berndt's boss in the Propaganda Ministry. Like Adolf Hitler, Reichsminister Dr. Goebbels refused to accept any decorations from any foreign countries friendly with Germany. Why I don't know. Could it be that Goebbels have some of his representives get full credit for relationships with other countries and were decorated very well from them? Perhaps Alfred-Ingemar Berndt was one of them. Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop was one of the Fuehrer's representives in Foreign relationships with other countries and got full credit in dealing with them and was well decorated by them. Just a thought. Edward

boursiers Salut!

                                                    Edward
honorary SS leaders were administrativelly linked with the branch of the SS which fit the most with his "sphere of life"
in DAL 1938 he was attached to SD-Hauptamt. Then after 1939 RSHA (of which SD was part).

A comment from Doug Nash on the last command and death of Alfred-Ingemar Berndt...
I heard back from a member of the Wiking who said that Berndt was killed by a strafing Soviet Aircraft when he was standing next to Darges, the Regimental Commander. He said though that while "on paper" Berndt was named as the commander of the II. Abteilung, by that time the regiment had shrunken to only 1 tank company so they had more officers (senior and highly qualified ones, at that) than they had tanks for. Since Berndt had little experience on the Russian Front or in Panthers, Darges kept him at the HQ as a staff officer.

He was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 17.07.1943 as Hptm.d.R. for his service as Ordonnanzoffizier and Chef of the Kampfstaffel on Stab, Oberbefehlshaber Panzerarmee Afrika (based on a recommendation dated 01.03.1943 and signed by Generalmajor Fritz Bayerlein, Chef des Stabes Panzerarmee Afrika).

Hi,
Does anyone know if Alfred-Ingemar Berndt travelled to Spain in september 1936?. It´s sure that there was somebody called Berndt from german propaganda services in Burgos at that time, but I´m not sure if he was Alfred-Ingemar Berndt.
Thanks,
Bernard

Goebbels with some of his most trusted lieutenants: SS-Brigadeführer Werner Naumann, SS-Brigadeführer Alfred-Ingemar Berndt and SS-Brigadeführer Leopold Gutterer in uniform of Dienstleiter der NSDAP.
