SA Sturmfuhrer Reinhold Koch

Hello,
I purchased an excellent propaganda postcard of SA leader Koch. In the painting he only hold the rank of a lieutenant; is very young and has an Iron Cross. I must assume Koch fought in the Great War and won the award there. The card was issued for the 1937 Winter Relief drive and I'm also assuming he died during the early days of the struggle, or did he survive and achieve higher status during the Third Reich? Is this a fallen martyr card?

It's a little hard to read. Can anyone translate it and identify this SA Leader?

Too Small

Post by Zapfenstreich » 02 Aug 2002, 22:07

James

It's just too small for me to read; even with the help of a magnifying glass.
Maybe someone with younger eyes can read it.

Could you possibly type out what it says here on the forum? Or enlarge the scan.

Sorry.

It's very difficult to see but it looks like it states, “Offizielle Bildpostkarten-Sammlung (genehmigt durch den Reichs und Breussischen des Innen). Berausage geben von der Freuden der bilden Runft kunst unter Witwir tung des Reichsbeastagten fur tunstleriche Formgebung.” Some of the German words maybe wrong, but hopefully enough is correct for a translation.

OK James, here's what it looks like so far:

"Offizielle Bildpostkarten Sammlung (genehmigt durch den Reichs und Preussischen Ministerium des Innen)."

"Official picture postcard collection (approved by the National and Prussian Ministries of the Interior)."

The rest of it goes on to tell something about which organizations helped with the acquisition of the painting or something like that. There is absolutely nothing about the man himself in that description. I'll keep trying to make out the words. My eyes are too old to really make out the original script and I can tell you are unfamiliar with the old German alphabet. No offense intended. It can be difficult. B's look like P's, F's look like S's and M's look like W's.

I'll get back with you unless someone with younger eyes steps in. I won't be insulted if they do. 8O

I'll give it another go after I've rested my eyes.
