Re: ...
An interesting photo which appears to show the chain indicating Liebel's office as Oberbügermeister of Nürnberg. In the ring below the Eagle with the swastika is the Eagle with the Head of a King from one of the coat of arms of the city of Nürnberg.Helly Angel wrote:You can see Willie Liebel a few seconds in the last part of "Triumph of the Will" when the SS march in front of Hitler in the last part of the Marchs before the ceremony to closed the Congress.
The King's head Eagle arms based on the oldest seals from 1220. The "actual" arms with the Eagle and bends dated from 1240, but the number of bends in the second field changed over the years and was finaly fixed in 1936. The same year was also the King's head Eagle arms adopted.

Re: Oberbürgermeister Willy Liebel
I'm not sure that anyone ever answered why Liebel was killed. I think Streicher had nothing to do with it - at this time he and his new wife were fleeing to the south of Germany. It seems to have been caused by two things: Liebel wanting to surrender the city to the Americans and (perhaps more importantly) Holz wanting to settle an old score - the two men did not get along. If there was an official announcement of this in the German press (I haven't seen one) it presumably would have fallen under "executed for defeatism"...
