Ever since I recognized Hitler as evil after reading about the Holocaust and the scope of the Holocaust, I've pondered the question of whether people in the US knew that Hitler was evil as soon as World War II started or after US troops saw bodies of dead or emaciated Jews, Gypsies, and homosexuals at concentration camps in Germany. However, I found two documents from 1940 that potentially address the question of when publications began using the word evil to describe Hitler:

Cantankerous,
Your excerpts are from an old article about the famous Chaplin film "The Great Dictator".
I don't understand your question please, the film was and is a masterpiece of film history, that has been written about and reported on a billion times.
Are there any questions about this, I think not ?
Hans

Re: First use of the word evil to describe Hitler
I decided to do research on Google Books regarding the question of when publications first used the word "evil" to describe Hitler, because it was unclear to me if people recognized Hitler as evil as soon as WW2 started or after Allied troops saw dead or emaciated Jews, Gypsies, Poles, and homosexuals at concentration and death camps in Germany and Poland. I had just happened to notice that a passage from the article about the film The Great Dictator in the 1940 issue of LIFE that you mentioned uses the word evil to describe Hitler, which means that people came to recognize Hitler as evil in the late 1930s.Hans1906 wrote: ↑25 Oct 2021, 14:00Cantankerous,
