Hitler’s alleged wristwatch sold for US$1.1m

A watch that is believed to have belonged to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler has been sold for $1.1m (£900,000) to an anonymous bidder at an auction in the US.

The Huber watch, dating from the 1930s, features engravings of a swastika and the initials AH.
Full article and photos of the watch in question here: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 34598.html

IMHO someone paid a fortune for some fake.

I agree. A simple and frugal man such as Hitler wouldn't have owned such an extravagant watch. He would have considered it vulgar.

Could have been a gift. He did receive quite a lot of vulgar knickknacks and ostentatious gifts.

But what about the dates on the back of the wristwatch?
- 20.4.89 AH's birthday.
- 30.1.33 The day Hitler came to power.
- 5.3.33 Reichstag elections. Why in the world could this date be of special interesst for AH? I would say he wasn't a big fan of elections. Sio why this date and not another date, e.g. that of the beer hall putsch?

The election of March 5 1933 or 5 March was the first the nazis together with the nationalists gained a majority on the Reichstag. So it certainly would have been important. If the watch was a gift perhaps the prior owner put the dates on there.

I agree Helmut.
I'm sure he's been scammed.

"Sure" is a strong word. Although sure, it is not very smart to pay such a fortune for an item which can hardly be authenticated.

There are no photos of the ascetic Hitler with a wristwatch, the Führer didn't strike an hour.

The man kept the time for years, even without a wristwatch.

As I said years ago.......Hitler was of the time
when men wore pocket watches more than wrist watches.

.
Aha..., there was no small pocket on his "Party Uniforms" for a pocket watch, who ever saw the Führer ever
looking at a watch at all, there was no hour for the man, not even in the end...
