I don't collect them on paper - just digitally. Relics of research past. It's too bad there aren't places like these anymore. They seemed so fun and classy.

A little more about the "Haus Vaterland". Under its vast roof, the complex housed numerous bars, dance palaces and even a cinema! Many of the bars had a special theme, including a Turkish style cafe and even an American "Wild West" bar!

I think you're right it is a great shame.I collect the music of the Tanz Orchester of that time say 1920s-1945,Oskar Joost, Michael Jary,Teddy Staufer,Leo Monosson, Robert Gaden etc etc.There is one or two bands around today in Germany however none of them seem to be able to recreate the sound that these acts had.

That's great! Do you have any tunes by "Sid Kay's Fellows" or the Weintraubs ("Weintraub Syncopaters")? Outstanding jazz/tango/foxtrot music. (Sid Kay's Fellows performed as house band in the early 1930s in the Haus Vaterland's "Palmensaal", which was situated under the great dome.)

I have no tracks of either of those acts,however i have heard the "Weintraub Syncopaters"on a internet radio station called Weimarrundfunk,however the last time i logged on they had went over to subscription only !

Thankyou Annelie ! Very catchy tune. Many good acts had to stop recording after 1933 "Sid Kay's Fellows" reminds me of Leo Monosson who was easily Weimar Germany's greatest singer who had to leave for America he never sung or recorded again.Its a shame the Haus Vaterland ended up the way it did.

"Atlantis" (8 Behrenstraße, Berlin) featured a mock up of an alpine marketplace, complete with twinkling stars on the ceiling. "Tanz unter Sternen".

That is a good tune, "Die ganze welt ist Himmelblau" . (It is from a popular operetta and was recorded by many groups in the 1930s and beyond.) I like the jazzy beat in this version by Sid Kay's Fellows. Thanks, Annalie, for sharing the link.

I have an app on my iPhone called TuneInRadio. It has hundreds of internet and streaming radio stations, and one of them on there is a German station called Radio 1920. They play all sorts of pop/jazz/dance songs from the 20s-40s. Check it out if you can!
