Wonderful pic. I can add that his full name according to the churck book Sankt Gallen in der Steiermark is "Carl Boromäus".
Although a former Austrian General staff officer he did not manage to get a troop officer set up in the Wehrmacht and only become E-officer. His commands include
Kdr. Gebirgsjägerregiment 143 27.05.1940-22.12.1940
FR: 23.12.1940-14.02.1941
mdFb Gebirgsjägerersatzregiment 137: 15.02.1941-30.06.1941
Kdr. Gebirgsjägerersatzregiment 137: ab 01.07.1941

Carl Borromäus Andreas Ruthart, also known as Carl Ruther and Karl Ruthard; in Italian as Carlo Borromeo Rutardo (1630, Danzig - c. 1703, L'Aquila) was a German painter who spent most of his career in Italy. During the last years of his life, he was referred to as Frà Andrea. He considered himself to be a follower of Peter Paul Rubens.
