Oh, sure. This is the main reason for WWII: Germany was of importance (for the West) to the containment of Communism, and it also was of importance (for Stalin) to fight Capitalist Europe.
In the end all of the wise men to think up these points lost their games. Excluding, maybe, American wise men, who finally gained more than had to spare.

Naturally, descendants of these wise men now imagine themselves to be the heirs of the only winners in the WWII. OK, maybe so... But without hard-achieved Russian victories and our difficult defeats during all 5 years of the war, where would have been the so-called "Capitalist Democracy"? Most possibly, it would have been divided between two pockets: Japanese and Hitler's.
