Georg Elser - a musician?

#1

Post by von thoma » 25 Aug 2018, 06:26

I've heard that he was an excellent Zither player, and that during his captivity he used its music compositions,
with the aim of winning the sympathies of his keepers.
Is that true, or was he only a builder of these instruments ?
Thanks for your answers

Hello, von Thoma, nice to see you here :)

There is actually a book called "Georg Elser – The Zither Player". He was a cabinetmaker (not an instrument-maker) and a zither player.

Infused with obsessive energy, the zither playing cabinetmaker, Georg Elser, planned the elimination...

In the late 1920s, a friend convinced Elser to join the Red Front Fighters' Association, a militant organization that sympathized with the communists. But Elser was no thug and no hard-nosed ideologue. Rather, he was a highly talented musician and a ladies' man.
Cheers,
Ivan
