Any colorized photos of the Cathedral of Light / Lichtdom?

#1

Post by blackmetalhistorian » 17 Nov 2022, 02:05

I know someone made a post about this but that was in 2005 and received no replies.

I was wondering if there are any colorized photos or even photos originally taken with color of the Cathedral of Light (preferably at night).

I'm assuming the effect of the lights or brightness might dim down with added color, and perhaps the black/white photos would look more impressive but I'm still curious how it would look.

Thank you!

Hi blackmetalhistorian,

here an exerpt from the german Wikipedia: "Lichtdome" zur Propaganda
Searchlights were used for propaganda purposes for the first time in Germany during the National Socialist era. The building minister at the time, Albert Speer (1905–1981), developed his own technology for the “building material light” by bundling headlight beams at the 1936 Summer Olympics into a so-called light dome. At the Nazi party rallies in Nuremberg, hundreds of thousands of Adolf Hitler's supporters were put into a spectacular pseudo-sacral mood on the Zeppelin field in the evening hours (see also the Führer cult). To form the light dome, 152 motorized anti-aircraft searchlights and 2000 other fixed light sources with an output of 3100 kW were used. The light productions conjuring up the NS spirit were processed propaganda and artistically in the documentary film "Triumph des Willens" by the then star director Leni Riefenstahl (1902-2003)...

Color photos are not known to me personally, see for example here:
Google photo search for "lichtdom speer": https://www.google.com/search?q=lichtdo ... era&hs=Uoi

Thank you! For some reason adding "speer" as a search function like you did actually resulted in a few more colorized pictures. They don't look "fully" colorized but this one at least shows some!

Look at your "images", they are graphics or other nonsense that have nothing to do with the "Lichtdom" performed by Albert Speer.

Scenes from a movie, anything, stupid computer game but not that evening in Nürnberg.
(I'm getting too silly to reply here...)
