There is a photo of a German family that is being aided by a young soldier. I first saw this photo when I was about 12 years old. The look on the woman's face was to me, unforgettable, as I imagined the horrors she had witnessed.

the images of the starved bony survivors
mostly the Jews but also various prisoners of war and starving campaigners

way too much hunger in the war
