It was specially posed, it was Bolshevik propaganda in progress.Homer martin wrote:It is a nice picture, just how many of that item does he have? 10? One for each time zone?
The Russian photograher did a good job on the Reichstag photo, i would love to see what is on the rest of the photos on that roll of film.

2 pics comes to my mind.First one is taken in road of Raattee during Winter War.It shows 2 Russian in foxhole frozen to death. They didn't want to surrender so they just died to cold.
2 years ago while i was chatting in irc,i talked with Russian girl who had moved to Switzerland.Because it was exatly 60 years in that day when Winter War ented,i said that to her.She said that hers granmothers brother had fought in Raattee with Russian army and had died there. In his last letter he described how cold it is and how he is affaid that he could die there in far from his home.He was just 18 old kid.Mayby he was one of the frozen Russians in picture. It really maked me think.
Second one is picture taken in Hiroshima.Just shadows of people in the road, they bodies simply vaporised in the blast....

Re: hi Gott
I bet the rest of the film roll is pictures of drunken Russian soldiers, because at the time the Russians captured Berlin, Russians all acted like they are in a rave party, they looked like they got all high and stuff.Homer martin wrote:Yes Gott the Reichstag photo is a posed shot, it has been covered on the history channel in one of the programs about the fall of Berlin. I want to see the rest of the shots on that roll of film.

I read that the Stalin thought the American Marine's raising the flag on Iwo Jima had such a pyshcological impact on American's that he wanted something similar.
Do not know how true that is really, I never really looked into it, but sounds reasonable. The Iwo Jima flag was a major moral boost, and is still a great symbol of the United States Military, not just the Marines.

hello all.. this is a great thread.. has anyone have this picture that is being mentioned above?..valadezaj wrote:The image from world war 2 that has moved me the most is the one from Hitler's last birthday. Seeing him shake of the hands of the youth about to die in the upcoming battle for Berlin somehow seems a fitting end.
thank You

hi
The photograh of the 10 year old Polish girl by her dead sister's side can be found on page 183 of the Time-Life The Third Reich: The Reach for the Empire book.
The note on page 182 in the book says the photographer recalled that the youngster "leaned down and touched the dead girl's face and drew back in horror. 'O my beautiful sister! she wailed, 'What have they done to you?'"
