► Photothread: Then and now photographs
Re: Then and now photographs
The original caption for this image is dated 17 November 1943 and, translated, reads: ‘Prisoners have returned. Obfw. Aigner explains to Hptm Rabe [about] the capture.’ Shown are paratroopers of 3. Kompanie of Fällschirmjägerregiment 2 at Alinda Bay. Rabe (company commander) is the central figure. Far left is Leutnant Karl Franz Schweiger and to his left Leutnant Willi Blank. Oberfeldwebel Aigner would appear to be the man standing at attention with back to camera.

On the west side of Alinda Bay, British prisoners of war assist in carrying wounded on to a waiting Pionierlandungsboot close to Villa Belleni, which served as a front-line hospital.

The American 6th Armored Division closed on Brest on August 7, 1944 reaching Gousesnou in the late afternoon, then the following day the division was in contact with German defenses along a front running from Milizac through Gouesnou to Guipavas, east of the port.
South along Rue des Fusillés in Gouesnou today

I like that effect. I have seen American Civil War photos done that way, particularly around Gettysburg where there are so many distinctive rocks and the terrain has been preserved.

Nice photography, There are many different things in old photography and now photography. Old photographer faces many problems now photography is very easy with the new camera.
