Panzer IV Ausf B or C of the 8./22. The soldiers tasting the good specialities of France, not realising that the invasion will soon begin.
These pictures have been taken in the village de Saint-Martin-de- Fresnay, situeded a 7 km south of Saint-Pierre-sur-Dive.Spring 1944

Above we have a Panzer IV Ausf B or C and notice that the vehicle is in bad shape: This Panzer IV is obselete and the canon of 75 mm wont be of any use against an allied char.

When we take a good look at these chars then we see the bad shape of them.
Even the mitraillieur of the modèl 38 is missing.
Remarq the word " HEDI".
. La trappe de vision du conducteur porte une inscription à la craie " HEDI ", probably the name of the girlfriend...?
These man receiving some cheese from the locals...

There is a video some where on the net outside the Collogne Cathedral.

It is a soldier in a building under fire, but through his camera you can see a panther that was just hit by some thing big and is about to explode. The crew rips open their hatches, climbs out, and runs into the city, seconds later the entire inside of the panther starts shooting flames. The camera then looks up, and you can see the towers of the catherdral.

A very dramatic event,
i even can remember there was an second by second written story about it, and i was not sure that most of the crew survived.

There must be more on this....

best regards

At the top of this page, after clicking the 'search' word, reading the directions, and typing 'Cologne and Panther and video',

This was difficult to find because there is not much information in the picture. You can see the repair to the wall.

Celles panther then and now

A few years later the tank was moved to the crossroad, wheels and track were already gone but it was still showing its original camouflage.

The lady in front of the tank told the Germans that the road to Dinant had been completely mined by US troops. Running out of gas and ammo German troops did not get any further.
