Victor, can you give us a exact year for that photograph of your Grandfather? No real reason, I'm just curious :-)

Thanks,
Zygmunt

I've seen Victor's photo in AHF meeting reports thread. Obviously, he takes after his grandfather.

And an interesting point is that the Artillery Officer School commander beside Victor's grandfather is more than 180cm tall, considering his grandfather's height. Maybe this photo was taken in late 1930s or in early 1940s. Obviously, that commander was an extraordinarily tall man, compared to his contrymen at the time. So is Victor himself, compared to contemporary Romanians.

* Today, Romanian males' average height is 178 cm.

The photo was taken on 1 July 1931 in Timisoara, where the school was. My grandfather graduated first in his class and the commander wanted to make a photograph together with him. The colonel was indeed very tall. That is why I posted the photo.

Romanians are the tallest people among Latin-originated peoples(Romanians, French, Italians, Spaniards and Portuguese).

Thanks Victor. Very interesting. The photo definitely 'felt' pre-war to me, and I wanted to confirm my hunch.

Thanks for sharing.

British Major-General Isaac Brock who led his army during the British-American War is said to have been between 6 ft 2 in and 6 ft 4 in (1.88 and 1.93 m) tall. If he had not been that extraordinarily tall, he might not have been shot and killed by an American sniper at the Battle of Queenston Heights. He was easily recognizable due to his height which was thought as abnormal in his time.

The better nutrition is one thing, and the thing they are adding to the food[1] is another. generally, I think that by average younger generation in Poland is much taller than my generation. With my 1.78 m i was considered quite tall in school, while today when I ride in tram I feel sometimes quite small, when surrounded by young boys.

[1]Well, you know, they add hormones to food for cows and bulls and every other anima; to make it grow faster. Some of this probably is then filtrated into the meat you are eating.

Skorzeny was 6 feet 4 inches, that would be 195 cm. A giant in those days.
