Hello Sirs,
Please could you help on getting some information about these fuel trucks.
They look are based in a Ford chassis, but with a two axles in rear wheels. I tought that the chassis were could originally be made in the dutch Ford Factory, could be with sussex type wheelbases, or made with imported chassis from England and with a local (german? belgiun? french?) cab an tanker body.

While the tanker bodies are different, the windshield and cab are the same. the engine radiator cover is different, one it looks to have a 1937 Ford BB V8 truck type (despite being covered), and the other the normal Ford V3000 engine and radiator cover, a hint to one-off purpose built vehicles...

Images for ilustration and discussion purposes.

Olá,

:welcome: Interesting post. I have nothing further to add except thanks for the V3000 tanker pic, although to me it doesn't look like a Kfz. 384 (or as the caption says Sd. Kfz. 384). The cabs look Dutch to me, the Belgians seemed to go more with an Art Deco look, but I'm just guessing about that as I'm not an expert in BENELUX cabs.
Cheers,
Max

Hi uncle,

after searching a while I think I can ID the truck on the pic You posted. It could be a Steyr type XVII for 3 tons. On 19th Febr. 1938 the Austrian army had only six trucks of this type. Here a pic of this truck out of the book "Die Räderfahrzeuge des österreichischen Bundesheeres 1918 - 1988" by Rolf M. Urrisk.

Best regards

Bert

You are right. It cannot be the type L 5000. I would say it could be the type Lo 2750. Here a pic of such a truck. It is a pity that the quality of this pic is not better, because there are two interesting details about the weight on the door:
weight of the vehicle: more than 4000 kg
payload: more than 2500 kg
Hello, Bert

Sorry for my last answer....Well, It is possible that you are right but...I think the front fenders not match with Lo2750...
In any case a very rare Mercedes-Benz truck with the stadard military cab ...

Hi Sturm 78,

thank You very much for Your reply. You are right. It cannot be the type Lo 2750. Then I would say it is the type L 3000. Here two pics out of the Autotypenbuch. Typentafeln der deutschen Kraftfahrzeugindustrie 1937 and 1938.

Best regards

Bert

von thoma,

that's a car cooler- one of the predeccessors of car air conditioning.

It used cooling by evaporation of water contained within the device.
And gave way to the refrigerative airconditioning systems, that we still use today,

Cheers,
Angel

Hi Angel and von Thoma,

That surely beats the "455" Air Conditioner I had back in the sixties: Open 4 windows and go 55 miles per hour. :D

Hi ilfil,
Is it not a '38 Oldsmobile? I don't know the origin of the cab.

Hi Max,
Yep, they are 38 Oldsmobiles indeed, thanks for that.
I also have no idea what the cabs could be. They are too good-looking to be of Benelux origin, probably Scandinavian?

Hi All,

Sorry for late reply.

A few years ago, I ran into such a unit at a small car show. The owner was no where to be found. It took a little research and contacting all my auto experts, but finally it was identified. They called it a "Swamp Cooler". Not sure where that name originated. Angel's description is correct.

And Max--yes, my '65 New Yorker had wonderful 455 air conditioning.

Would like to have a indentification on these pictures,
I do think that they are of Italian origin.

Bert
To answer your question from may (page 709): the upper one of your three Italian luxury cars I would say is an Isotta-Fraschini 8A from ca. 1926-28. The lower two are Lancia Dilambda Berlinas, early series I (from 1929-1931).
