And if yes, to which extent?

On german tanks specifically? I haven't seen any evidence that it does on guns like the 6pdr, US 76mm, soviet 76mm, 122mm etc.

Malignity,

the so called "Mündungsbremse" was, and still is the official german term.

There are tons of documents, videos and and other stuff Online about all this...

Mündungsbremse https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mündungsbremse

Muzzle Brake /Mündungsbremse / Mündungsbremsen - wozu sind sie gut?

For my German taste, an informative video, well done, everything is explained...
Tanks and artillery aren't my thing, but you've picked up a little bit over the years.

Hey Hans,

thanks for the video. But i didnt ask what muzzlebrakes are for, i asked if they in any way influence the velocity / ballistics of the shell fired.

Thank you

Would be a terribly bad design if it influences ballistics

How could they affect and why?
Muzzle brake affects expanding gases leaving the barrel behind the projectile, so if there is any residual influence on the projectile, it's simply negligible.

This table has 76mm with muzzle brakes and without. The difference may be because of mounting or it may be the muzzle brake.

Thanks for sharing that.

So that means there is a not insignificant effect on the shell velocity?

Kind regards

No.

As Mobius wrote, there are other possible explanations. In addition to a possible difference in mounts, the difference between the guns could be more than simply slapping a muzzle brake at the end.

Even if all other explanations can be ruled out, there would still need to be an explanation for how the effect occurs before the result can be extrapolated to other guns.
