Axis Non-Armored Vehicles quiz
Re: The official AHF Panzers & other vehicles quiz thread
I agree Sitz,
It indeed seems to be Rheinmetall's 2 cm MG C/30 which was developed from the 2 cm MK ST 52 by Solothurn of Switzerland. The C/30 is quite often confused with the Flak 30, last I looked there was a photo of the latter in German Wikipedia's C/30 entry.
Any takes on the truck?

Hi Bert,
And the combo thus is a Krupp L 3 H 63 and a 2 cm MG C/30. Since you completed the puzzle... over to Germany.

Hi Bert:
If I am correct, that was not an easy one.
Sorry, the truck on the right side of the photo

Hi Bill,
my compliment, You´re correct, again, as usual. It´s an Italian Isotta - Fraschini D 80. Interesting, that the Italians produced only 500 units (so Bert Vanderveen).
The source of the pic: Francois de Lannoy, Afrikakorps.
Please, go on, Bill.

Hi Bert:
Yes, I also saw the Vanderveen photo but it was too small to copy well.
Try this famous person's "ride".

Exactly, Markus:
Maybe I should have edited out the registration plate.

Thanks Bill,
New subject... something somewhat humbler than the mighty Maybach.

Re: The official AHF Panzers & other vehicles quiz thread
Hi Markus, now back home again.
I am getting a little concerned that we are sort of getting into a truck/car mafia here, especially when the topic is titled "Panzers & other vehicles". We see rather little of tanks, armoured cars, SP artillery etc.
For my part, I will have to say that the tanks etc. are outside my area of interest and "expertise" compared to cars and trucks. That is why I mainly post those subjects and when I venture out into armoured vehicles, I just have to hunt for stuff on the internet.
If Marcus is reading this thread, I wonder if he would consider a stickie that dealt with a quiz thread that only dealt with softskin vehicle subjects. Then those of us that are mainly interested in those vehicles would not impose on those who are more interested in armoured subjects.
In the meantime, here is a hardskin photo to chew on.

Re: The official AHF Panzers & other vehicles quiz thread
Hi Bill,
I OTOH think its rather beneficial that vehicles of both the armoured and softskin genders are in the same quiz. The Axis AFV variants though they were a legion were quite limited in number compared to the wide variety of different softskins... e.g. if I'm not mistaken your last quiz question made its previous appearance on the page 118. I for one am not really into softskins but find myself posting more photos of them than armoured vehicles simply because it's easier to find subjects that have not been asked before (or have been asked long ago or show the vehicle from a wildly different angle). I also find the mixed quiz to promote learning; if I find a nice armour photo I'll likely have to struggle with an obscure PKW or LKW question to get a turn. One must also consider the extemporized (semi-) armoured vehicles that especially the Landsers seem to have been fond of making; the softskin experts have a better shot at solving those.

Re: The official AHF Panzers & other vehicles quiz thread
Touche, Markus:
118 it is/was.
Regarding my remarks about a softskin mafia, maybe I am too sensitive, I am not sure.
I think it is safe to say that the majority of armoured subjects have been fairly well covered over time and that there are not very many surprises left. It is a huge area of interest with interested parties scattered all over the world. And, the Internet gives all of us a degree of access to the subject of all types of military vehicles of whatever type that we could only have dreamed of 10 years ago.
I did a quick search of the number of members here that have posted on various threads that deal with Quiz subjects, ID subjects etc. etc. and it numbers in the hundreds. I would ask those that monitor this thread and others to give us their opinion if they are happy or "OK" with some of us that play ping pong with soft skin subjects when they may not want to play that particular game.
On the other hand, I also am most happy reading your remarks that this is a way to expand everyone's knowledge about military vehicles in general. And.... as I have posted many times on many forums that all armies existed on the tyres and hooves (horses and cattle) of the supporting transport vehicles of all military forces armies.
To me, it was/is equally as important a subject of military history as armour, artillery, individual weapons, ships and aircraft.
For now, I will be encouraged by your thoughts and will continue to try to broaden the knowledge of all of us.
A I recall the theme of this Forum, "Knowledge not shared is Lost" and I will operate on that premise.
A freebie for tonight, and the question is yours.
